Zimmerman received 3 USMC Division of Public Affairs/Combat Correspondent Awards in 2003: 1st Place Radio Entertainment Program, 1st Place Radio Spot Production, and 1st Place Radio Newscast. Zimmerman received another DivPA/CC award in 2004: 2nd Place in Television Spot Production.

Sergeant Beth Zimmerman joined the Marine Corps July 2001. The Richmond, Va., native graduated from the Basic Journalism Course at The Defense Information School, Ft. Meade, Md., April 2002, and graduated from the Basic Broadcasting Course July 2002. Zimmerman was assigned to American Forces Network Iwakuni, Japan July 2002. She produced news stories and anchored more than seventy newscasts for AFN Television, and she hosted the morning radio show for AFN Radio, logging approximately one thousand hours of on-air time. Zimmerman deployed to Thailand with MAG 12 for Operation Cobra Gold 2003; there she acted as a television reporter and a Public Affairs representative.
